Due to its proximity to Manhattan and the revitalization of the area, Brooklyn, New York, is experiencing a renaissance. Homebuyers who want to live close to the city, but can’t afford to be in Manhattan, are finding excellent real estate opportunities in Brooklyn neighborhoods like Bay Ridge. Bay Ridge is a small chili-pepper-shaped neighborhood in Brooklyn’s southwest corner. It is bordered on the north by Sunset Park, on the south by the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, on the east by Dyker Heights, and on the west by the Narrows and the Belt Parkway.

The neighborhood hosts an annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade and once had a significant Scandinavian population but, today, it is far more diverse, with a majority of residents of Greek, Italian, and Irish descent. There are also many Middle Eastern immigrants in Bay Ridge, as well as a handful of Chinese, Polish, and Russian-born residents. It is essentially the melting pot for which New York is known, and people in all stages of life are moving to Bay Ridge from the pricier neighborhoods to the north. There are two express buses serving Bay Ridge, along with the R train, and the NYC Ferry also has a stop in Bay Ridge. And in addition to these public transportation options, Bay Ridge has several conveniently located services, retailers, and restaurants. The primary retail drag in Bay Ridge is 86th Street, which is home to Banana Republic, Gap, Century 21, and several other chains and big-box stores. And along Third Avenue are several local toy and craft stores. Other Bay Ridge attractions include the Narrows Botanical Garden on Shore Road and Alpine Cinema on Fifth Avenue.

Bay Ridge real estate is also near several parks, such as Shore Park and Owl’s Head Park, both of which are on the water. Real estate in Bay Ridge is also in proximity to very diverse dining opportunities at places such as Vesuvio Restaurant and Pizzeria, Tanoreen, Elia Restaurant, Chadwick’s Restaurant, and Peppino’s Brick Oven Pizza and Restaurant, all on Third Avenue, and Shobu Sushi on Fifth Avenue, to name a few. Bay Ridge properties consist of condos, co-ops, and rentals, but also include many multi-family and single-family homes. Many co-ops in Bay Ridge overlook the water and provide views of New Jersey and Staten Island. And, there are several recently developed condos in Bay Ridge too.
